In the mid 90s, I was working hard building my imprinted wear and promotional company. I noticed as I traveled the country that in a very crowded "copy-cat" business no strong effort was being made to offer women designs that expressed their lives that they could be proud to wear. It made no sense to me as everywhere I looked women were out there. They were active, busy, involved, breaking tired rules and expectations.
So, I teamed with my good friend and colleague, celebrated sports editorial cartoonist Larry Johnson, and together we created Jane our Everywoman/Girl. We developed a line that had a unique style filled with humor and positive messages that offered
a great big Standing O to all women.
As a graduate of Wellesley College and the Harvard Graduate School of Education equity issues have always been important to me. As a former educator I know the importance of building a girl's self-esteem early and reinforcing it throughout her growing years. That is why I am so pleased to lauch This Girl Can!
Of course T shirts cannot change the world, but spreading a positive message,
applauding Every girl and helping her
believe she Can! couldn't hurt!!
